Software Developer Frameworks & Architecture

What does the everyday life of a software developer at kasasi look like – and what makes a company a place where you want to stay long– term? Martin shares insights from over ten years of experience in Frameworks & Architecture.
Martin, how did you come to kasasi?
In 2013, I was looking for an interesting topic for my Bachelor's thesis. I came across kasasi by chance, had a conversation with Markus, our Managing Director, and it clicked straight away. I wrote my Bachelor's thesis on "Microservices" at kasasi and have been part of the team ever since – over ten years now. I was, by the way, the fifth employee at the company.
What are your responsibilities?
I'm responsible for maintaining and developing our framework – essentially the technical foundation and backbone of our entire application. A framework defines how things are done: it sets rules, standards, and structures that give developers clear guidelines and allow them to build new features efficiently without starting from scratch each time. Another central part of my work is making architecture decisions – determining how our software is structured, what principles, design patterns, and technologies we use, and how individual software components interact. I co-developed many of the application's core components from the very beginning, so I know exactly where the pitfalls are when you want to extend or fundamentally change the system. When things get tricky – performance optimisations, new requirements – I'm always in the mix.
What excites you about your work?
I love that my job offers so much variety and keeps presenting new challenges. I get to work on topics that genuinely interest me. What motivates me most is that at kasasi we're always at the cutting edge, engaging with the very latest technologies.
What does a typical working day look like for you?
I'm a late riser and make the most of every second in the morning – so I'm usually ready right at the start of our core hours at 09:00. First thing, I check the dashboards I've developed, which let me quickly see if there are any anomalies or critical errors in our metrics. In the afternoons, there are usually more meetings focused on sharing ideas, optimising systems, or making long-term architecture decisions. I'm often the first port of call for particularly complex topics. Another important part of my work is researching and testing new technologies – I test new approaches, develop prototypes, and explore concepts that will move us forward technologically.
What makes kasasi special for you as an employer?
What makes kasasi special for me is the family atmosphere. We're a small company where everyone knows everyone. There are no big barriers or rigid hierarchies – you can just talk to people. And the team spirit – even outside of work – is fantastic.
What would you like to say to applicants?
You're free to be exactly who you are here. We're looking for people who enjoy working as part of a team and driving projects forward together. If you like working in a modern environment with new technologies, you'll fit right in with us.
